While on the highschool golf team in the early 1990's, I had two teammates who worked at Mee-Kwon Park Golf Course. I had an open invite to join their friendly match but always declined. The competitive nature in me always chose a neutral site to negate any home field advantage. In my adult years, I golfed Ozaukee County's sister course Hawthorne Hills numerous times. I struggle for an explanation on why I never made the trek. In all honesty, it might have been the municipal golf stigma. Surely, if I played the better of the two courses, it was enough for me.

This past spring I spoke with Mark Lezar at the Milwaukee Golf Show, he talked the course up and extended an invite. My excitement grew as I reached out to my old friends and they reassured I would have a great time.
Pulling into the parking lot I caught a glimpse of the all brick modern club house. "Wow, this isn't your grandfathers muni," I jokingly muttered.

The par-70 Lee Egelhoff designed course opened in 1974. The classic feel is apparent with perfectly square tee boxes and hints of back and forth golf. However, there is a very modern feel to the property and the recently built clubhouse sets the stage. The parkland course is well-manicured from tees to greens. Locals brag that the course rivals some Metro-Milwaukee country clubs. I second that motion.

Notable Hole
#2 - The park is set atop one of the highest points in the county. Adjacent to the second hole is Mule Hill the famous sledding hill on property. The 414 yard par-4 drops several stories and sweeps to the right.

#4 - The hardest hole on the course is a monstrous tree lined par-5. Two great shots are needed to climb 550 yards. The last 30 yards climbs a steep elevated green.

#16 - A country club quality par 3. Measuring 186 yards from the blues , a mid to long iron is needed to reach the large green. Danger is prevalent, a large right bunker protects the green with mature Wisconsin native hardwoods surrounding the hole.
