Blackwolf Run

Blackwolf Run

Golf Course Information

Description

Around 1800, Algonquin's from Canada and Michigan invaded the Sheboygan River valley seeking the best hunting and fishing between what is now Chicago and Green Bay. They met resistance at the hand of the resident Winnebego's. Blackwolf was chief of the indigenous tribe. Records of the battle he fought recount his tenacity in protecting his land.

Pete Dye took this same piece of ground and designed one of America's best golf courses in the traditon of Blackwolf, where nature is paramount. Seeing the proposed land of Blackwolf Run for the first time, Dye said, "There could not be a better natural setting for golf."

Intimidating to the professional, fair and dramatic for the amateur, this "Beauty of the Beast" measures 7261 from the back tees with a slope of 149. Each hole is marked by target landing areas, strategic bunkering, large undulating greens, and deep ravines along with dramatic elevation changes carved by the Sheboygan River and Weeden's Creek. Water is in play on several holes and changing winds create unusual hazards.

This championship course challenges even the experts to weigh the relative advantages of distance and accuracy, though staggered tees put much of the danger out of harm's way for the average golfer.
