Hawks Landing Golf Club - Verona, Wisconsin

An Overview and Photo Gallery

By Brian Weis

Driving up the entrance to Hawks Landing you will notice two things you rarely see on a Wisconsin golf course, a silo and an island styled green. Before you even park your car, you know you are in for a treat. The semi-private course winds through a western Madison real estate development. While a few holes are lined with homes, the link style course weaves through prairie grasses, rolling hills and wetlands. The conditions are pristine with bent grass tees, fairways and greens. The public is invited to play and can arrange tee times up to seven days in advance.

Signature Hole - The Silo Hole

The closing hole is appropriately dubbed "The Silo Hole. In the rough on the left sits the remains of an old farmstead, including a concrete silo. Do not gaze at the structure too long because three well struck shots are needed to close out the round. The 587 yard hole climbs uphill and is capped with a false front green. Choose your approach club wisely or par is not in your future.

While the silo hole is the signature, Rich Bartley, Head PGA Professional, shared that his favorite is the long par 3, 13th. "From the back tees, it plays about 200 yards and the ball needs to land gently to hold the green. Trouble surrounds the green with deep sand bunkering and the pin seems like it always set in a tough spot," commented Bartley.

He summed it up by stating, "It is an underrated hole on the course but it is a challenge. Par is a great score on this hole."

The 19th Hole

After your round, casual dining awaits in The Roost Pub And Grill. The club house pub features 16 beers on tap and some of the best pouring Guinness in Dane County. Locals rave about Roost burgers and Red Brat. Outdoor seating is available that overlooks the golf course.

In his adult years, his passion for the game collided with his entrepreneurial spirit and in 2004 launched GolfWisconsin.com. In 2007, the idea for a network of local golf directory sites formed and GolfTrips.com was born. Today, the network consists of a site in all 50 states supported by national sites like GolfTrips.com, GolfGuide.com and GolfPackages.com. It is an understatement to say, Brian is passionate about promoting golf and golf travel on a local, regional, national and international level.
