SentryWorld Is Open!

Rolling green fairways, sparking blue waters and bright white sands await golfers at redesigned course

After a 20-month renovation, limited charity and community play in late 2014 and nearly 33 years since SentryWorld originally opened, SentryWorld's freshly reimagined golf course is set to open for the 2015 golf season on Saturday, May 2.

Tee times start at 8 a.m. through the month of May and 7:30 a.m. beginning in June. Golfers can book tee times by calling SentryWorld at 715-345-1600 or 866-479-6753 or by visiting www.sentryworld.com.

"SentryWorld is back and better than ever," said SentryWorld Director of Golf Danny Rainbow. "We're beyond excited to invite everyone to tee off with us on our official first day of the 2015 season-the snow has melted and it's time to golf! Don't miss out on your chance to play one of the first rounds of 2015 at SentryWorld-and remember, we're open to the public-everyone is welcome to come out and golf!"

SentryWorld will also host a TaylorMade demo day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 2. A TaylorMade representative will be on the SentryWorld practice tee with all of the company's latest equipment, providing golfers an opportunity to try out equipment before buying.

Golfers are reminded that SentryWorld's course and practice facilities are closed Mondays throughout the season for maintenance. SentryWorld also enforces a dress standard of proper golf attire in good taste and condition while on the course and practice facilities. A complete listing of SentryWorld's policies, along with other information, can be found on www.sentryworld.com.

Throughout 2013 and 2014, SentryWorld's 200-acre golf course underwent a major renovation, seeing upgrades, improvements and changes to everything from its layout, greens, grasses and bunkers to its irrigation system, water features and everything in between. Course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. was brought back to oversee the renovation to his original design. Working in collaboration with co-project architects Bruce Charlton and Jay Blasi, the team set out to accomplish a seemingly contradictory task-creating a more challenging SentryWorld golf course for low handicapped golfers while also making it more enjoyable for casual players.

The total golf course yardage is now more than 7,200 yards-to be exact, 7,237 from the championship tees. Two new par threes-holes 3 and 12-have been crafted out of property previously unused. The remaining existing holes were reconfigured and enhanced. The variety of shots, both in distance and angle, has been increased. Every shot presents the low handicap golfer with options, requiring them to make use of every club in their bag for a round. The added variety also makes the course more playable and enjoyable for casual players. Recreational golfers can now choose from several tee boxes, adjusting hole lengths to accommodate their skill level and style of play. Wider, more open fairways allow golfers, if they wish, to play around hazards. Recovery slopes and closely mowed areas around the greens provide more options in approaching the green. Practice facilities have been expanded and upgraded. And the iconic sixteenth hole-the Flower Hole-has been preserved and enhanced.

The SentryWorld sports complex was also completely transformed-the renewed facility boasts dramatic changes inside and out. After entering through a stunning porte-cochere, visitors experience a new pro shop, first-rate wedding, banquet and event space, an expansive Fieldhouse complete with new indoor tennis and volleyball courts and a revamped indoor golf driving range, and a brand-new restaurant, PJ's - SentryWorld.

SentryWorld is located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and is owned and operated by Sentry Insurance, one of the largest and strongest mutual insurance companies in the United States. The company and its subsidiaries sell property and casualty insurance, life insurance, annuities and retirement programs for businesses and individuals throughout the country. Headquartered in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Sentry employs nearly 4,000 associates in 41 states.
