Insights From An Insider With Mark Eades, Markleting Director

Local and traveling golfers love to research courses before playing them, whether it is to gain some local knowledge or to set an expectation before their upcoming round. Below is an interview with Mark Eades who shares some valuable insight about the property, its most talked about holes and the signature dish/drink to consume at the 19th hole.

How Does Your Course Differ From The Others In The Area?
Bald Mountain is a very well maintained course that offers golfers a scenic and some what challenging layout. It is very playable but demands some shotmaking ability on almost every hole. You can get in trouble quick on a few holes. The front nine is a good warmup for the back as it gets more challenging there. Some elevation changes but nothing too extreme. Greens are well maintained and can be fast. Read each putt before you go.

For someone who has not played the course in awhile, has there been any new changes/renovations to the course or property?
We have improved several bunkers and removed others. We recently pruned back several of the trees that line the fairway. This opens things up some more for everyone.

What is your course's answer to Amen Corner? (Describe your best/hardest 3 back/back/back holes) I'd go with #10 - #12. Walking away with par is just fine with me. Lets' start with #10. It a Par 4 that demands a good tee ball to set up your approach shot. IF you leave the tee ball short or right you may have to layup that second shot. The green is small and elevated with a good bit a speed to it. Next is #11 it too is a par 4. Tee shot is an iron for most to a tight fairway. Second shot is all uphill and you'll need an extra club for that. Green is small and fast again. #12 is a par 3 that is pretty much all carry over a valley. If you go short it may roll all the way down to the bottom and that is a tough second shot. Green falls hard from left to right and I have seen folks putt right off the green when it's fast.

What is your course's claim to fame, or is there a little known fact that golfers should know about the property?
Our #16 par 3 green was a scene location from the hit movie Dirty Dancing.

What tournaments/events have you (recently) hosted or will be hosting?
We host a variety of tournaments each year. Some are open to the public and some are not. Best to check with the Pro Shop for more details.

Besides golf, what other amenities do you offer if a golfer wants to spend most of the day at your facility?
We are a family friendly resort that offers members and guests amazing indoor and outdoor adventures. We have a Wellness Center with an indoor pool, fitness room, full-service spa and salon, putt-putt golf, tennis/pickelball courts, game courts, and business center. We also offer a private white sand beach right on the north shore of Lake Lure with boat rentals available. You will also find an outdoor pool complex called Trout Stream. There folks can enjoy swimming, floating down the lazy river and just watching the kids play in the water features. A sand volleyball court is located just behind the pool as well. Hiking and Biking trails are throughout property and are well maintained for all skill levels. We offer scenic lake cruises and are famous dinner cruise offering a romantic 3 course meal. There is pretty much something for everyone.

Signature sandwich or drink?
We have 4 distinct restaurants that offer service throughout the year. At Legends Pub & Pizzeria you can try our Monster Drive Burger. Our Lakeview restaurant offers an amazing view of Lake Lure from every table. Many enjoy the fresh Trout or Jack Daniels Salmon. We have 2 additional restaurants located at our Apple Valley Golf Course. Pinnacle Bar & Grill, our newest offering, overlooks the course and you must try the Philly Cheesesteak. Eagle Nest Cafe is a great way to start your round offering fresh brewed coffee, espressos, and morning bakery good.
