Schuman Elected To WSGA Hall Of Fame


Wisconsin men's golf coach Jim Schuman was recently elected to the Wisconsin State Golf Association's Hall of Fame. Schuman was joined by Cherokee Country Club's Director of Golf Larry Tiziani in the Class of 2009.

Schuman recently completed his sixth season as UW men's golf coach. He has guided the Badgers to two NCAA Regional appearances and helped Dan Woltman make two NCAA Championship appearances and record the lowest career stroke average in school history.

Schuman's playing career is highlighted by two Wisconsin State Open Championships (1996 and 1999) and he has played in the Greater Milwaukee Open and U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee a combined 10 times. Nationally, he was an accomplished PGA Assistant, winning the PGA Assistants National Championship in 1996 and 1997.

Prior to turning professional, Schuman was an accomplished amateur player, winning the WSGA Match Play Championship in 1982 and WSGA Best Ball Championship in 1983 with Jim Gaugert.

Schuman was named the WPGA Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002 and the WPGA Teacher of the Year in 2003 and 2005. He is the current swing coach for PGA Tour professional Jerry Kelly.

Schuman joins other Wisconsin golf greats such as Kelly, Steve Stricker, Andy North and former UW men's golf coach Dennis Tiziani in the WSGA Hall of Fame.
