CUES kicks off Drive for Hope 2009

The Credit Union Executives Society launches the fourth annual Drive for Hope campaigna benefit established to provide facilities, staff and support for a national lung cancer research wing at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in Madison, Wis.

With only a 15% five-year survival rate, lung cancer has been dubbed the "invisible" disease. Not to mention that one in every three cancer-related deaths is attributed to lung cancer. The silence that comes from the 85% of lung cancer patients who have been laid to rest is a direct correlation to the lack of research dollars, oncology specialists and public relations efforts. It is important to raise awareness and funds for this quiet killerwhich in 1971 was the leading cause of cancer death, and still is today.

CUES would like to thank the members of the credit union community, who over the past four years have shown tremendous support and dedication to this cause. Few survivors are here to share their stories, and CUES feels it is our responsibility to stand up and give the families of lung cancer patients a voice.
