Wakonda Club, celebrating its 100th year as a staple of the South Side Des Moines community, announced this week its plans to perform a restorative Golf Course Master Plan. The project, set to break ground in June 2023 and completed at the end of spring in 2024, is a full-scale restoration of the William Langford and Theodore Moreau masterpiece originally created in 1922.
Nationally recognized golf course architect Tyler Rae and his associates will be carrying out the Golf Course Master Plan.
The plan is being driven by a new irrigation system, which will make the Club more environmentally sustainable and will improve turf and tree conditions. Paying homage to Langford and Moreau's original design intentions was another major aspect in creating this Master Plan. Ultimately, the Master Plan increases playability for golfers of all skill levels and enhances the beautiful features that make Wakonda Club so unique.
The Golf Course Master Plan is part of a larger Vision Process for the Club. In addition to the Golf Course Master Plan, a large-scale renovation, including new hard courts, pickleball courts, fencing, and lighting will be installed at the Club's Tennis complex.
Wakonda Club is contracted to host the Principal Charity Classic, a marquee PGA TOUR Champions event, through 2023.
