Getting To Know: Waushara Country Club

An Insightful Interview With Quinten Eberhardy, General Manager

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Quinten Eberhardy who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
This Beautiful golf course is located adjacent to Silver Lake in Wautoma Wisconsin. The secluded property reminds those here of simpler times and removes them from the hustle of everyday life. The Waushara Country Club was founded in 1932 and has since grown to become home to now three different 9 hole courses.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
Waushara Country Club's 27 hole course is the perfect getaway for both seasoned golfers seeking a challenge, and newcomers looking for course variety. The daily rotation between our three 9 hole courses ensures that golfing at W.C.C. never becomes repetitive.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Be mindful of changing yardages and elevation. This course can trick you into becoming comfortable through multiple holes before giving you with a curveball that will humble you quickly.

Any recent changes to the golf course? Or any upcoming changes?
We have been working diligently to improve our sand traps in the early part of this season. New machinery and different tactics are looking promising for long term improvement of course conditions.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
All of us here at W.C.C. take great pride in our greens. We had the course in immaculate condition for the 2021 season and we are striving to improve our course conditions even more for the 2022 season and beyond. Be careful now, those greens are deceptively fast.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
Bridges number 7. The second par 3 on the Bridges course is a short 154 yard downhill shot onto a peninsula island green. As beautiful as the surrounding scenery is, it is equally as dangerous for your golf ball.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
Bridges number 2 is a 372 yard Par 4 where the fairway narrows as it approaches the green. My insider tip to success on this hole is to keep your tee shot safe and play for your approach shot. With there being hazard to the right side of the green and Out of Bounds to the left, trying to push the green from the tee box can prove to be a heavy risk/reward on this hole.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
If you stop in at Waushara country club you must stop in after your round for one of our signature cocktails. A large pizza from Joe's Pizza. Headquartered here in Wautoma is another must try when in town.

For the traveling golfer, do you have lodging onsite or partner with any area hotels?
We partner with the local supperclub, the Silvercryst for our stay and play bundle. The Silvercryst has been in business for over a century and is still going strong. The wonderful deal about a bundle with the Silvercryst is they offer lodging and dining on site. They also offer live music on Saturdays and are located right on the shore of Silver lake. The Silvercryst is definitely a staple in the community and a must visit when in town.

About: Brian Weis

Brian Weis Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.

As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.

Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.

In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.

On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.

Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
